Indianapolis Colts Team News
New players, New scheme
Posted by: mustangmanbryan on 2010-05-23

The Colts have been very busy this offseason. New players added through the draft and trades have created intrest in a new scheme for this team that had good success just last season. This scheme change will effect both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball and hope to bring more fun and wins to this talented team.

On Offense the team looks to add some youth and size. Jefferson in only his second year will be plugged in the number 1 WR slot. His 6'5 body frame and good strenght lead the colts in reciveing yards in his rookie debut last season and earned him a starting roll across Lee Evans. Gonzo will remain in the slot and share time with a big strong rookie WR Warren drafted in the 3rd round of this years draft. Lets not forget the great Reggie Wayne who will also be put in to teach the younger WRs. All these WRs along with Dallas Clark and newly added TE Jared Cook will show the league a versitile multiple reciever set scheme. Using 3,4 and 5 wrs sets as a base offesne is not seen offen but will give the fans some excitment. With this high powered group of recievers the colts feel they can pull off a electric offesne.

The running game in this multiple wr offesne will not be forgotten. Last season the Colts had 50/50 run pass ratio and plan to contiune that with a 5 headed monster running attack. Addai, Stewart, Young, and FB Tamme will all still get touches like last year. However now they will share with a 265 pound monster rookie running back Jamaal Henry. This Brandon Jacobs clone will pound and beat up dlines all season long. His cth has impressed the coaching staff and will cause more fustrations for the opposing defenses. So many options to choose from, the colts just hope they can make it all mesh together and spread the ball round enough to win some games.

On the defensive side of the ball the Colts used first rounder in the draft to get Aaron Kampman from the Packers. The new scheme on defense will use multple formations in both 3 and 4 man fronts. Kampman was the perfect fit as they felt he could be used just like teammate Justin Tuck. Used in multiple ways as a 4-3 DE or DT and a 3-4 DE or passing rushing OLB. The dline is sured up with speed with Mathins, Tuck, Freeney and Kampman. this scarely group should give some QBs a scare once in a while, atleast thats what the colts hope for. The LB core had a complete make over with using 2 second year LBs in Ezeh and Reynolds on the outsides and rookie LB Siegal on the inside to replace Brackett. This combination of size, strenght and speed look impressive and should create a impact on this defense agasint the run and pass for many years to come. With the secondary remaining the same but an increase in pressure from the front 7, the Colts hope to increase there takeaways this season and increase the fear factor on the defensive side of the ball.

Eventhough the Colts are testing new schemes on both sides of the ball and will be using alot of very young players they plan to fight for the divison crown for a second year in a row. This will be a tough task as they have a very tough sch playing 7 games with teams that made the playoffs, and 3 more of teams that just missed out. If anything, this should be a fun season to watch for the fans and their new team.
